Karma’s A Killer (A Downward Dog Mystery) is a mystery with lighthearted likeable characters and a story that will keep you guessing, smiling, and enjoying. Kate is a yoga teacher with her own studio. When her boyfriend Michael plans a fundraiser for DogMa, an animal rescue shelter, Kate agrees to hold a yoga class for dogs. The event quickly turns into a disaster as animals run amok, protesters march through, a suspicious fire erupts, and a dead woman - Raven - is found drowned in the lake. Kate, Bella (her faithful dog), and her best friend Rene take it upon themselves to solve the mystery, with a great cast of characters to choose from. Kate finds herself in several scary situations, but never gives up trying to prove that Dharma, whom the police believe is the killer, is really innocent and should not be in a jail cell. Kate is surprised to find out that Dharma is her long lost mother, which causes her to search even harder for the real murderer. The two slowly work at forming a new relationship after years of separation.
This is the third book of the series and Karma’s A Killer stands alone; there were only a few references to past books, but none that were integral to this story. Tracy Weber has a flair for writing a mystery which entertains and had me chuckling throughout the book. I never had any idea of who murdered Raven or who set the fire until it was revealed at the very end of the book. I enjoyed reading Karma’s A Killer and recommend it. I will be adding Tracy Weber to my list of authors and look forward to spending more time with Kate and Bella.
