Telling stories of resilient women, Kathryn Biel hails from upstate New York and is a spouse and mother of two wonderful and energetic kids. In between being Chief Home Officer and Director of Child Development of the Biel household, she works as a school-based physical therapist. She attended Boston University and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The Sage Colleges. After years of writing countless letters of medical necessity for wheelchairs, finding increasingly creative ways to encourage the government and insurance companies to fund her clients' needs, and writing entertaining annual Christmas letters, she decided to take a shot at writing the kind of novel that she likes to read. Jump, Jive, and Wail by Kathryn R. Biel is the story of two lovers, Kaitlin Reynolds and Declan McLoughlin. Kaitlin is slowly putting together the pieces of her life after a injury ended her skiing career and ruined her dream of competing in the Olympics. She is still struggling to get her life back on track when she runs into Declan McLoughlin, a figure skater. His charms work on Kaitlin and she finds herself falling for Declan. Though Declan is perfect for Kaitlin, will she forget the past and move forward in her life with Declan?
Kaitlin, as the broken woman, has been portrayed well. Her anger and frustration in life are fully relatable. Declan, on the other hand, is charming and successful, but tired with the kind of life he leads. The main characters are well sketched and, apart from their romance, the book also brings to light the tough life of an athlete and their intense training to become successful. The author captures the emotions of passion and pain beautifully, and the complex emotions of Declan and Kaitlin have been handled well as the story progresses.
It's a good story and an interesting read. Everything about the plot, the story, characters, supporting characters, and the incidents are real and readers can connect well with them. The book has challenges, sadness, love and humor that make it a compelling read. The way the story is handled from the point of view of both Declan and Kaitlin focuses on victory and defeat in life.
