The life and dreams of Esme, a budding live musician in New Orleans, had just crumbled. She’d been mauled by a dog, her good hand was damaged, and her career looked bleak. With nothing left to hold on to, she moved back to her parents' duplex in Last Call, a small town. Esme’s parents had taken on a new tenant, Jinx, with whom she would share the duplex. It was hate at first sight! Jinx was a hunk of a man, with striking looks and a forceful personality. Esme felt useless and wanted to hide from the world, including her neighbor. How will she survive with a neighbor who is always in her space? Will Esme ever be able to play her instruments again? Find out in Jinx by R.V. Asher.

Jinx by R.V. Asher is a beautiful contemporary romance novel, the fourth book in the Summer Nights in the Last Call series. It portrayed the complexities of life through the story of Esme. I saw her go through the stages of fierce protection, loss, grief, anger, self-esteem issues, acceptance, the will to live, mindful freedom, courage, and more. The story presented such depths through its characters that I had no choice but to pay rapt attention. The plot was realistic and relatable, which helped me connect easily. I loved the laid back vibe associated with small towns, which I got from the book. The conversations, tonality, and writing style were captivating and engaging. I am positive that this novel will appeal to young adults. This is a beautiful work by Asher, and I’d love to see more of her works.
