I was raised overseas, the child of a US State Dept. diplomat, and my family did a lot of traveling. After college, I worked in Washington DC on Capitol Hill, where I met my husband. We moved to his home state of New Hampshire where we raised two daughters. I worked as a technical writer, first in the computer software industry and later in the Medical Devices industry.
"Jet Trails" was a novel that let me explore a 'What If' situation that many women confront - what would I do if my husband died? I want to believe that I would reach out, travel, and find a new, interesting, and exciting life. Just like my character Meara did.

Jet Trails: Looking for Blue Skies by M.H. Sullivan is a contemporary romance that follows Meara's journey to Oregon to heal from the loss of her husband and the sale of her travel business. She connects with Cade, a lawyer, on the flight and they explore San Francisco together, deepening their bond. The relationship takes on a feeling of serendipity when they discover a shared past, but despite their growing connection, Cade's anxiety from his individual past as a federal witness resurfaces, and a looming stalker emerges that shakes them both. On a trip to Milan, Cade's concerns intensify and Meara is approached in a moment of absolute shock by a man named Brian, who accuses Cade of wrongful actions with life-changing consequences. Meara is emotionally stung by conflicting information and emotions, and Cade's secrecy that inevitably leads to mistrust.
Jet Trails by M.H. Sullivan takes readers on a rarely explored romance journey that involves a couple who are past the age that most stories focus on. The benefit of this, beyond tapping into a niche readership that is woefully under-represented, is that as a couple they both have a lot of backstory as they have both already lived full lives. Meara is extremely likable even though she naively ignores her instinct, continually forgives, and could be a lot less prosaic. Still, we must remember she has lost a life partner she loved and trusted implicitly, so her experience with a romantic interest of questionable morals is non-existent. If I'm being completely honest, I did not like Cade at all. The selfishness of roping another person into danger crosses a line I cannot move beyond. In one scene Meara says she wants to kill him and I got up to get her a blunt object from the coffee table. But I'm not Meara, and Sullivan has made this Meara and Cade's tale alone. The writing is clean and engrossing, and the visual descriptions of where Sullivan takes us are really beautiful. Very highly recommended.
