When Donald J Trump announced his intention to run for the Presidency of the United States, many doubted his chances of success. It came as a surprise to many when he thwarted the mighty Hilary Clinton and moved into the White House. The onslaught of persecution and criticism from NBC, Buzzfeed and CNN have continued ever since, no matter what he achieves. Many believe his treatment is isolated, but 3000 years ago a man named Jeroboam, a successful businessman and realtor, suffered eerily similar condemnation. You first hear mention of this controversial leader in 1 Kings 11:26, but the recollections are far from positive as he too wanted to stem the flow of other cultures into his land. His virtual wall did indeed stop pilgrims from entering and his determination to 'drain the swamp' also made him unpopular. Jeroboam held a similar belief system to Trump's Make America Great Again. His sole aim was to 'Make Israel Great Again'. He led his ten tribes to victory by overthrowing King Solomon's son to become a great leader of his people for 22 years. Follow his story as he and his family are brought back to life and interviewed on Fox News. We hear his opinions on fake news, Trump's presidency, his forecast for the future of America and the truth of his life and reign, told from an archaeological perspective.
I found the subject matter of Jeroboam Derangement Syndrome by Siegfried Johnson totally intriguing and fascinating. The research that has gone into collating all the information contained within is quite remarkable. There are some really comical moments throughout, which bring these historical characters to life and make them very likable. The huge achievements of Jeroboam are not well known at all and not given the credit they deserve, which begs the question that is raised in the book concerning the medias bias when reporting on certain events that do not fit their political narrative. This is quite a worrying prospect when you rely on media and history books to form your opinions. I found the information throughout the book to be unbiased for both Trump and Jeroboam and based on evidence. I found the narrative extremely well-written and a great idea to place Jeroboam in a modern-day news studio. I would love to read more from this author as his style of writing makes historical figures and the scriptures more accessible and interesting for everyone.
