Murder is committed in an assisted living home for the elderly in the suspenseful murder mystery Jeopardy in July by Barbara Venkataraman. Jamie Quinn is an attorney who is a legal adviser in divorces, wills and family disputes. Her newest clients reside at La Vida Boca, an assisted living facility. Jamie has the unhappy task of helping a couple file for divorce after sixty years of marriage. Before Jamie even has the chance to speak to her clients, the husband drops dead from a heart attack. Having escaped the task of dismantling a sixty-year marriage, Jamie is relieved as well as sad about her client's demise. Weary of mediating for so many family disputes, Jamie is wondering if family law is the right fit for her. She decides to look into another area of the law and, by a twist of fate, Jamie is hired at La Vida Boca. Soon after her first meeting with the residents, several suspicious deaths occur at the residence. Jamie suspects they are related to her late elderly client and his never-to-be-had divorce. Can she find the culprit and his motive before other residents become victims? Or will she be the next victim?
Jeopardy In July (A Jamie Quinn Murder Mystery) by Barbara Venkataraman is an entertaining sleuth murder mystery. Jamie's engaging personality and traits thread through the story, infusing the book with vitality and humor. Although Jamie's perspectives about the law can be pessimistic at times, they are insightful and amusing. The plot is exciting and suspenseful, with colorful and charismatic characters. This cleverly written novel is the fifth one in a series. I adore this series and am eagerly anticipating the next book. Cozy murder mysteries fans will enjoy this novel!
