Jasper's Cafe On The Boulevard is a quick-read novel by Tracey Fagan Danzey in the chick-lit genre. It centers on heroine Torie Lynn Harper, an educated, proud black woman who is suffering a crisis of identity as the story begins. A move to a new urban environment throws Torie’s life into a tailspin as she struggles to fit in everywhere she goes, and only one project seems to want to accept her aid: a movement dedicated to saving the boulevard café known as Jasper’s. Here, she contends with brand new friends as well as discovering truths about old ones, and work and romance collide with Torie’s ultimate quest to find herself. What could have been a simple, light read becomes a heart-warming tale of discovering your own unique identity wherever you are in the world.
It was so refreshing to see a highly educated, refined woman in the central role of a chick-lit drama, as well as an incredibly diverse cast of characters in terms of both creed and religion. Tracey Fagan Danzey presents a delightful representation of a variety of lovable and instantly recognisable characters, situated in an easy-to-read novel with an enticing plot. The story was never predictable, and full of witty dialogue that displayed different cultures within urban living perfectly. Overall, Jasper's Cafe On The Boulevard is a sophisticated chick-lit novel for women who are bored with the usual man-hunting genre, and want to discover a more meaningful journey of happiness, self-discovery and individual pride.
