Rich Meyrick earned an award-winning PhD in Environmental Change from the University of Cambridge (UK), after which he spent four years as a Department Head with the prestigious Senckenberg Institute in Weimar (Germany). So naturally, when he married Sue and moved to Canada in 2004, he began writing fiction for middle graders.
In truth, this was less of a leap than it might first appear. Rich’s Jaspa’s Journey series is something of a rarity among middle grade adventure novels, since the action takes place in the real world and is woven through with all sorts of fascinating geographical, historical and environmental details. In short, while most of the main characters are straight out of Rich’s imagination, everything else is real, explaining how Jaspa’s Journey has won awards in both fiction and educational categories.
In body, Rich now lives in Ontario with Sue and their dogs. But in mind, he spends his days exploring the planet with Jaspa. It’s a Journey he hopes will continue for many years to come.

The Pride of London by Rich Meyrick is book two in the Jaspa's Journey series, a rollicking story that features characters that young readers will adore. Watch Jaspa and his friends on a one-of-kind journey that explores London in an attempt to solve the riddles of the Path and help their friend, Ernest. Ernest is a Ratses and a member of a clandestine Ses Society known as The Pride. Will they succeed in solving the riddles?
The Pride of London is a delightful adventure, wonderfully told with exciting characters. There is a lot of fun stuff going on in this story and the reader moves from one dramatic situation to another, and from one entertaining dialogue to another. Gravee is a character that I adored and his manner of speech is equally adorable. A story with animals that behave like humans, and that are brilliantly imagined to speak and think and act like humans, is interesting, and all the time as I read this story, I couldn’t help but think about it as a movie. The setting is beautifully captured in breathtaking descriptions. I was won over by Rich Meyrick’s powerful prose that is punctuated with great dialogues. I enjoyed the way the author impersonates the accents of some of the characters like Gravee, capturing their linguistic background and culture through the excellent use of dialogue. The Pride of London is a hilarious read that blends humor with the art of storytelling and extraordinary characters. I enjoyed every aspect of this tale.
