Jaspa’s Journey: The Great Migration by Rich Meyrick is full of thrills and adventure and revolves around Jaspa the Giraffeses, who is a small version of the original giraffe. Set against the backdrop of Africa’s Serengeti Plain where there is amazing wildlife, the story chronicles the adventures of Jaspa and his brother, Bisckits, as they travel across the Serengeti Plain. The animals are forced to take the 500-mile journey and they have no idea what the terrain has in store for them. It is during this journey that Jaspa meets eleven-year-old Ben McRae who is there on vacation with his family. The story is an adventurous and compelling read and readers experience danger, thrills, excitement, friendship, and above all, the discovery of new things.
The book is fascinating and will keep young readers glued to it till the very end. The author makes the story educational, informative, fun, and exciting for readers. The storyline is unique and together we get to enjoy a story that not only entertains but also enhances our knowledge about Africa and the Serengeti Plain in an interesting manner. The narration is descriptive and detailed, making the scenes vivid and memorable. The drama, the fun, the laughter, the challenges, the twists and the turns, the fauna, the flora, Africa, Ben with his ability to communicate with the Ses, and a touch of whimsy are all woven together seamlessly into the plot, making it a fun and insightful read.
