Whitlock Manor, a solitary, abandoned house located up the Cemetery Hill, has always held an irresistible appeal for Jack. The rumors surrounding the ancient manor made it seem all the more mysterious. Jack and his friends, Billy and Stewart, started a game of biking up the hill and daring each other to enter the house. One day, they find a broken window through which came a disembodied voice uttering a prophecy. As an unexpected turn of events threatens to engulf them, Jack realizes that the manor holds the key to many secrets. Can he solve the mysteries in time and save his friends? Will Victor, his elder brother, assist him? Jack Stinger and the Haunting of Whitlock Manor by Phillip Wolf narrates Jack and his friends’ adventures.
From the very first page, Phillip Wolf created an ambiance that drew me in and did not let me go until I discovered the secrets held within the depths of Whitlock Manor. With frequent otherworldly occurrences at the haunted house, the novel offered a captivating story no horror reader could overlook. I loved that instead of concentrating solely on the adventures, Wolf devoted time to recounting each character’s home life. This approach made them more realistic as I could understand how their experiences had shaped their personalities. The storyline changed its direction in a mind-numbing twist halfway through the book, which left me reeling with surprise. I would recommend Jack Stinger and the Haunting of Whitlock Manor to readers who have enjoyed ‘It’ and ‘Stranger Things.’
