Izzie the Inchworm's First Day of School by Viki Heagy is a fun children's book that follows a young inchworm named Izzie. It is Izzie's first day at a new school, and she's feeling very nervous. She doesn't have any friends at the new school, and the only person she knows is the teacher. When she gets to the classroom, the teacher introduces her to everyone, but she is still very shy. At lunch, everyone else eats together, but she sits on the grass alone. Finally, after lunch, it's time for her favourite subject: math. During the class, she is called on, and she gives the correct answer. But then someone makes a seemingly mean comment. Will Izzie ever make a friend?
I really enjoyed reading Izzie the Inchworm's First Day of School by Viki Heagy. The story is very well written and descriptive. Many people will find that they are able to relate to this book, because many people have had to go to a new school, and have felt out of place, just like Izzie. The characters are very likeable, because Izzie is smart, and her teacher is very kind. The characters are realistic. The story is well developed and well thought out. The pictures are lovely, and clearly depict each scene. I liked how each bug is drawn with human-like qualities; for example, they appear to have hair, and they wear hats, or glasses. I would definitely recommend this book to all young readers.
