It Otter Be a Crime: A Leslie & Belinda Mystery by Linda S. Browning is the fifth book in a series that reads like a standalone story. Fans of sleuth and murder mysteries will adore this spellbinding conclusion to the series. Leslie and Belinda live in a senior residence and both have lost their husbands. But they like to investigate crimes in their spare time. Leslie Barrett has an obsession with the Alice Farrow mystery in Lake Manchester Townhomes and can’t understand why there are many deliveries made to Unit #7 daily, and this has been for two years now. When Leslie and Belinda set out to rescue a child they think is in danger, they discover that there is no child to save, and when Leslie accidentally falls in the lake, Belinda dives in to help her. It is then they discover something horrible. Can they unravel the mystery?
This story was a hilarious ride and readers will enjoy following Leslie and her best friend, Belinda. They are accompanied by Riff-Raff, Leslie’s dog, which is an interesting character in the story. The narrative voice is injected with humor, and it comes out in huge doses. The first-person voice is skillfully written and it allows Leslie's point of view to shine through the story. Linda S. Browning’s plotting is top-notch and she keeps readers guessing, wondering what happens next in the story. The relationship between Leslie and Belinda is exceptionally written, and their adventures in a colorful and deftly written setting are fun to follow. It Otter Be a Crime: A Leslie & Belinda Mystery features characters that readers will never forget and a story that is as suspenseful as it is filled with mystery.
