In the beginning, she is a little immature and a little too naïve. However, as Isle of Dragons by L. A. Thompson progresses, you can see the change in her stance and how she acts. She matures quickly and starts to understand that she needs to grow up quickly. She fights the odds, and she rises victorious. Her relationship with Miria is special. They stay together, support each other, and overall make sure they are steadfast against a very powerful adversary. I literally cannot wait to see what else is in store for us with future novels.

It is logical that Jade is willing to go to any lengths given that many lives are at stake if she does not uncover the truth. For the most part, Isle of Dragons has an entertaining and gripping plot made more compelling by a spunky heroine. L.A. Thompson keeps the element of tech and magic in balance, and the ending will likely whet your appetite to read the next installment. Taut pacing and the character-driven plot make this young adult novel a worthwhile read.

Jade is looking for her missing father and believes he has been taken to the Isle of Dragons. The Atkins family fully supports Jade's mission, but it seems Miria has an ulterior motive. Jade, Miria, and her brother Dan go on a quest to tame a dragon to fly them to the mystical island, hopefully avoiding the Royal Guard that is in hot pursuit.

I found this a nicely written first book of the Isle of Dragons series. The scenery and characters are detailed in a way that allowed me to envision the conditions they faced. I particularly liked how L.A. Thompson incorporated the back story that introduced twists about interpersonal relationships. The Atkins family dynamics were filled with humor and assisted with the understanding of why venturing to the Isle of Dragons is almost an impossible feat. The ending of the book was done perfectly to allow for the sequel to seamlessly pick up without reintroducing the reasons each character had for their actions. I would definitely recommend this story to young and adult readers as it has no excessive violence, profanity, and explicit scenes.

Jade Sol is a determined, brave, clever, and appealing protagonist of Isle of Dragons by L.A. Thompson. From the very start, she captured my attention as she runs away from Kaylen and her group. She is resourceful and smart as she keeps hidden and displays great people instincts when she decides to follow Miria and ask for her help. The story is a fast-paced adventure that constantly kept me on the edge of my seat and hooked on every scene. I was mesmerized by the fantastical elements present in the narrative and the setting is incredible! I loved Jade’s giant metal centipede and also the general mystery surrounding the species of dragons. All of these elements really added to the flair and plot of the whole book, making it such an interesting and compelling read. I also had fun following Jade and her friends’ adventures and watching them grow from their experiences. Truly, this was a superb reading experience and its ending left me wanting more. Great job!

Isle of Dragons by L. A. Thompson was a good story with a decent plot. I felt it was more tailored to a younger audience but it had plenty of action in it with some worthy characters. It is a standard fantasy adventure of a journey to rescue someone from the clutches of evil but the addition of steampunk technology and lots of mechanical creatures gives it the edge over many other similar books. It moves fairly fast with few areas where little is happening and the plot definitely picks up in the latter half of the book. An entertaining read, ideal for young adult readers rather than older.

L. A. Thompson has written an entertaining story with Isle of Dragons. It is an interesting mix of steampunk and epic fantasy which has a solid story at the heart of it. The characters were well written, as was the dialogue. The story slowed down a little in places, but I did still want to know what happened, so I kept reading. I think this could be a great series and that it will appeal to epic fantasy and steampunk fans. While it is listed as Young Adult, because of the characters' ages, I do think it will appeal to adults too because it is a good story. I would recommend it.
