Instant Communication Skills is another short book from The Instant-Series, dedicated to self-help books that make a difference. Are you communicating effectively? If not, you could be crippling yourself in all your interpersonal relationships and interactions, causing problems at work, home, and even online. One of the most frequent problems with communication results from distancing yourself from the recipient of your communication. For example: in the office it’s often more effective to pick up the phone or even walk over to someone to talk rather than emailing. Emails are frequently misunderstood.
The Instant-Series has outlined many factors in good communication such as thinking on your feet, listening, and body language. Did you know that someone will accept what you are saying more readily if you mirror their body language? For instance, you can fold your hands on your lap if they are doing this. I found that there are many things I do that may not promote the best communication. For instance, I don’t often stand around chatting with co-workers since I feel that could be perceived as laziness. However, it could instead be perceived that I am aloof. A brief period of chatting actually helps to build camaraderie in the office, which will help any team to work better together. It can also make people like you better in a personal way. If they like you and think you are a nice person, they are more likely to be friendly to you, making your day more enjoyable as well. Instant Communication Skills is a book that can really make a difference.
