Inspired in the Bedroom, sub-titled Nightly Reads From S.R. Carson: Before, During and After Romance comprises 128 of S.R. Carson’s favorite blog entries, excerpts from his novel To Love with Hate, and some pieces from his thriller, Blue Shadows. He created categories for the collection, dividing them for readers to pick what type of story they would like to read. The first group, Before Romance, relates to the theme of meeting potential love interests. The second section, During Romance, contains only one blog entry describing reading and writing inspiration. After Romance is the third section focused on the effects of how a person feels after a romantic encounter. The final main section is Before Bed With No Chance for Romance. This final section is the largest and divided into four subcategories, including spiritual, humor, nature’s inspirations, and life story moments.
S. R. Carson’s creativity is vividly displayed in the entertaining blog post titles, and while they are short pieces, the amount of detail and passion is unmistakable. I enjoyed how easily I could relate to his perspectives. My favorite piece came from a post called Where’s The Respect? I am a veteran and understand Carson’s list regarding respect. I support the statements of anger he has when people show disrespect for the flag of the United States. While there are serious blog pieces, I admire the ability of an Intensive Care Unit Physician to write tasteful inspirational pieces and comedy that anyone could laugh at. There are short pieces ranging from an affair between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton before the election, Clint Eastwood quotes in an imaginary discussion, and moments from his experiences with heroic snoring. The childhood stories from when he was in the Boy Scouts, before the abuse scandals, were remarkable to show how his constructive skills continued through to adulthood. Inspired in the Bedroom is an amazing book for adult readers seeking short stories that suit whatever mood you may be feeling at that moment.
