Everyone knows the history of Jesus’ birth as related in the Bible. It has also been retold by mankind ever since. And while many of those retellings have focused on Jesus or the shepherds, how many have tried to tell the story behind the innkeeper’s family? Inn’s Side by Charles B. Carson endeavors to do just that. As the Bible tells us nothing about the innkeeper who provided a resting place for Joseph and Mary, Mr. Carson’s imaginative tale brings us Lacob, the innkeeper’s son, and his involvement with the miraculous birth. It is told with creativity, insight, and just a touch of humor. Children will love Lacob’s animal friends and parents will treasure another way to help their children relate to Christ!
I had never really thought about what it must have been like for the innkeeper who was able to give our Savior a sheltered place in which to be born. Inn’s Side by Charles B. Carson helped me to do just that. I particularly enjoyed the tale being told from the perspective of the innkeeper’s son, Lacob. What a wonderful way to give children an insight into the possible everyday lives of the people of that time and yet relate the incredible circumstances of His birth! It had me wondering about what effect it may have had on that family in the years following. I can definitely see this book quickly becoming a family favorite for those with children or grandchildren of almost any age!
