Inheritance by Karen Harris Tully is the second book in The Faarian Chronicles Trilogy. By now, readers have made the acquaintance of Sunny, her family, her friends, her enemies and the vampire-like Anakharu, who are after the blood of the Earthling who had to travel to another planet because her mother is an alien. After the trial during which her mother was framed for killing one of the Anakharu, Sunny is sent to a warrior school for her own safety. Unfortunately, the school is not to Sunny’s liking, and of course there are some truly mean bullies. At the same time, Sunny still needs to find a way to prove her mother’s innocence. There are mysteries surrounding the schools. Girls are disappearing without a trace. John, Sunny’s crush, completely lost interest in her – and then Sunny finds out the truth about who he really is. Leith, another boy, vies for Sunny’s friendship and seems connected to the other girls. Will Sunny be the next one to disappear?

In Inheritance by Karen Harris Tully, we learn a lot more about the two different races that live on planet Macawi Without giving away too much about the Molinidae, the details of what they are and how they get their special skills (i.e. fast healing, not getting sick) creeped me out a bit, but it is a rather interesting plot, and I haven’t read something like it before. It’s horrible, but fascinating. A lot of the excitement in the second part of Sunny’s story comes from the fact that the other race wants to “assimilate” her, even against her will. And there’s also an ancient Goddess that turns up, wanting a piece of Sunny (or rather the whole person). I have read all three books in the trilogy and have to say that the second one was my favourite. All three are five star books because of the excellent writing, great character development and almost perfect pace, but this one is my favourite, probably because I liked the setting of the warrior school! After finishing book 2, you simply can’t do anything else but pick up book 3 to see how things play out.
