A young girl and her fluffy little dog enjoy seeing the wonders of nature found in their yard in Julie Nichole’s colorful children’s book In My Yard. The story’s characters see innumerable delights outside their home through large picture windows. Birdfeeders attract many bird species, ranging from sizable turkeys to tiny hummingbirds. And, true to life, chipmunks and squirrels also enjoy eating the seed from the popular feeders. Larger animals also pass by, including deer, coyotes, and a family of bears. Concluding the day, the girl and her dog watch the stars in the night sky, reflecting on the many amazing animals they have seen.
More than ever, kids' entertainment draws them inside, revolving around television, video games, the internet, and other digital distractions. How refreshing In My Yard is in encouraging young ones to appreciate the marvels and beauty of the natural world. The variety of animals around our homes, along with their wild antics, can be an exciting spectacle. Julie Nichole utilizes rhyming text to detail the scenes, vividly depicted in full-page illustrations. The artwork by Blueberry Illustrations is captivating and attractive, using bright colors and smiling faces to portray the enchanting outdoor creatures. My favorite scene includes a pair of turtles observing the fish, frogs, and dragonflies dancing around the edge of a pond. An excellent choice for parents looking to redirect their children’s attention to the beauty of the natural world. In My Yard is a charming picture book that helps young ones appreciate nature and animals.
