In her uplifting, empowering self-help guide, In High Heels on a Ladder: The 7 Power Tools for Designing Your Life, Tonya Comer provides transformational techniques for healing and living with purpose. Despite being an award-winning interior designer, Comer struggled with impostor syndrome. While working in a male-dominated environment, she faced ageism, sexism, and other misconceptions about interior designers. Comer examines the limiting beliefs she adopted in childhood and adulthood and their sources. She shows us how we attach meaning to our experiences and how we can learn from them. She explores self-love, identity, forgiveness, and healing and their role in helping us live as our truest and freest selves. She encourages us to pursue our dreams, accept our uniqueness, and live in a place of love and purpose.
This is a wonderful book with many discussions that were surprising and eye-opening. Comer’s examination of her childhood, beliefs about herself, and what held her back were enlightening. I loved that the work addresses the issues many women face in their childhood and the corporate sector. Comer’s tone is kind and reassuring, helping her audience examine their lives and discover where they have settled for less when they could achieve so much more. Her messages about forgiveness, including self-forgiveness, were practical and hopeful. I appreciated the actionable steps offered at the end of each chapter that helped me take actual steps to utilize the lessons provided in the book. In High Heels on a Ladder by Tonya Comer takes readers on a life-changing journey of healing, building confidence, and living a meaningful, authentic life. It is powerful, informative, and inspiring.
