The writing is crisp and colorful and readers will love how the author explores the intense emotions of the protagonist. Lina is a brave and compelling character and her growth curve is very interesting - readers will enjoy following her through the different stages of the conflict that is masterfully developed throughout the story. The story, though improbable, is very convincing. Leah P Lozano comes across as an expert in the first person narrative, a style that will immediately draw the reader into the story, allowing them to be pulled into the worldview of the protagonist. This is a fantasy tale I enjoyed greatly and I loved the fact that Immortalis: The Guardian is set against a turbulent universe where worlds coexist and collide sometimes. It’s the kind of book that will make readers dream of light and darkness and flying in the air, and wake up with sweat on their brows. Highly recommended!

Immortalis, The Guardian by Leah Lozano is a wondrously written fantasy story that begins with Lina, a 20-year-old artist who has just inherited the beach style house that she was raised in by her grandmother, Nonna, now passed away. Lina was born with a gift of visions, and insights of people she meets. One such vision is a dark phantom stranger with onyx eyes who has always come to her in her waking dreams. Lina meets her handsome, godlike next door neighbor, Archos, who was also friends with Nonna. Archos has the knack of showing up like the cavalry every time she gets hurt or is in danger. When Lina meets Ange and Gabe, the trio embarks on a few outings and they become fast friends. When it seems like every time Lina and her friends get separated, Lina's life is in danger. Each time she narrowly escapes, and Archos is there to console, play nurse maid, and protect her. Romance begins to blossom with both couples, but Archos is warned to stay aloof.

Leah Lozano does a superb job of powerfully describing everything she writes about so vividly that it awakens the five senses. Her writing style draws you into Lina's and Archos' worlds as she shifts the story back and forth between them and how they perceive each other; including their attractions, doubts, and secrets. When outside forces are hunting Lina, she begins discovering things about herself that she doesn't want to let others know, but some things she just can't hide. Ms. Lozano does a brilliant job of developing this romance, adding the surprises in store for Lina as other Immortals - both good and evil - are folded into the mix. Immortalis is the first book in the series, and the end will leave you stranded high on a plateau... Your only salvation is the next installment. Brava, Leah!

I think women will like Immortalis: The Guardian by Leah Lozano a little more than men will. I hope saying this doesn't land me in trouble with the politically correct crowd. I say it most of all because the protagonist is a woman. She is a woman who has not been tested at the start of Immortalis, but her time comes quickly. I also say girls might enjoy Immortalis more because though it is listed in the Young Adult genre, I think it could easily fit into the paranormal romance genre. Having said all that, I enjoyed Immortalis immensely. Not so much for the romance as for the depiction of the epic struggle between good and evil, light and darkness, or chaos and order. You can label the struggle any of these, but no matter what you call it, this struggle makes for great storytelling in the right hands. I think Leah Lozano has the right hands. She deftly weaves Immortalis in and out of our world, the real world, and a realm where incredible beings with incredible powers battle for supremacy.

The heroine, Lina Bennett Cielo, is a work in progress, but I found myself really rooting for her and hoping desperately she would make the right choices. I also liked the men in her life, especially Archos Lucian Benedict. How great is a guy when the only thing bad you can really say about him is that he is too perfect? With several enchanted realms and a host of interesting characters, good and bad, Immortalis kept me turning the pages and I definitely will visit these characters and this reality again. Leah Lozano is a writer to watch.

Lina has no idea what’s coming next for her when she finds herself all alone in the house her Nonna left her as part of her inheritance. But when it comes to her next door neighbor, she’s not sure what’s going to happen next. Archos makes her feel comfortable, but at the same time she’s afraid of the depth of her feelings for him and the things he seems to know. When things around her start to change, she is extremely unprepared, but the Immortalis are coming, and Lina has something that they desperately want.

Immortalis by Leah P Lozano was really great and I loved the characters as well as the plot line. I’m going to be looking for the next book in this series because it is something I can’t wait to read more of. The characters were really interesting, from Lina and Archos to Lucius, Gabe and Ange. There’s a whole lot still left open at the end of this book. This plot has a whole lot going on and yet you feel like you’re right there in the middle of things, finding out more as you go along. Each character seems to develop over the course of the story and there’s plenty of action as well as plenty of romance at the same time. Immortalis by Leah P Lozano is a book that I will definitely recommend.
