K.A. Mulenga's Imbwa: The Story of the Dog and His Harsh Master is the best description of a halfway solved problem. The short story is about two dogs that are dear to each other but experience life differently. Despite Imbwa's loyalty, his master mistreats him, saying that he does not want Imbwa to get soft and be taken advantage of by other dogs. He is also beaten if he makes a mistake so that he does not repeat it. On the contrary, Galu has a caring master who plays with him and corrects him whenever he makes a mistake. Does Imbwa's sharing of his story result in any aid, or does he have to endure more beatings and mistreatment?
Imbwa: The Story of the Dog and His Harsh Master by K.A. Mulenga is a one-of-a-kind children's book filled with many educative life lessons; the art of friendship, where friends lend each other a listening ear to hear woes and open up to each other. In addition to the life lessons, I also liked the choice of the book's title because it makes a child curious to find out what happened to Imbwa and why the master was harsh to him. The inclusion of brightly colored pictures is very appealing to the child reader since it complements the narration and captures their attention. I recommend it to young children who enjoy story time and parents who should treat and correct their children with love, as treating them otherwise does not achieve the desired results.
