I am a first-time author who still holds down a full-time job in engineering. I was born in sixties Catholic Ireland, educated in the seventies and emigrated in the eighties, as did a lot of his generation. After several years abroad, I returned to Ireland where I have worked for different organisations across the country. I was an ‘à la carte Catholic’ until a eureka moment a few years ago which prompted research into his own core beliefs on the fundamentals of life. My book are my findings along the journey of self-discovery where I have gone from an á la carte catholic to full blown atheist and stoic.

Imagine There’s No Heaven: The Born Again Atheist by Frederick Von Heisenberg is a non-fiction religious book about becoming an atheist. The author talks about how he grew up as a Catholic but is now an atheist. He uses sections of the Bible to explain why. He also talks about other religions and uses them to explain why atheism makes sense. Frederick also uses science and psychology to prove his points.
I thought that Imagine There’s No Heaven by Frederick Von Heisenberg was a real eye-opener. Although the author does mention rape, female abuse, and such, he is quoting it from the Bible. I like that he discusses the Bible without expecting you to have read it. It's been many decades since I have read it (ex-Catholic too). I can't believe I never noticed one of his points before, which gave me an aha moment. I loved that he used my all-time favorite quote from Douglas Adams. I thought the psychology chapter was extremely fascinating. I loved that he explained all the main religions. There was a lot of great history too, which I enjoyed and thought was fascinating. I appreciated the way he explained how hard it is to get rid of the Catholic way of thinking; it was nice to know I am not the only one. You definitely need an open mind when reading but I thought the book was convincing and it will give you something to think about. If you are “soul” searching, this is a must-read.
