Meet Emma and Pinky in the story If The Slipper Fits… by Lindsay DeRollo. They both were excited to be in the Cinderella ballet recital. Their tryouts were over the previous week and they were eagerly waiting to discover what part they would have in the performance. Emma got the role of the stepmother and Pinky was one of the stepsisters. Bella, the Persian Cat, got the role of Cinderella. When Emma and Pinky went to the dressing room to change, they overheard two of their fellow dancers talking and saying that Emma was too tall to get the role of Cinderella. After hearing that Emma was sad. She did not want to tower over the other dancers. She went to Miss Linda and asked her about it. Miss Linda comforted her by saying that size had nothing to do with talent. Would Emma be able to play the lead role someday?
The story is about self-belief and self-acceptance, and the author brings the entire story to life not only with her delightful narrative but also with her beautiful illustrations. Emma's feelings are real, relatable, and tangible and many young readers will connect with her emotions. Many children have problems when it comes to believing in themselves and this story will erase all those types of doubts and fears, and help them believe in themselves. It is a good story for classroom read aloud and storytelling sessions and also for bedtime storytelling at home. Parents and tutors will find it easy to help children become more confident by accepting themselves and believing in themselves.
