If Music Be The Food Of Love is the first book in The Passion of Elena Bianchi series by Lenny Cavallaro. Elena Bianchi was a brilliant violinist who loved music to her core and craved masochistic experiences to aid her spiritual journey. When Elena met Giovanni Bianchi, he was recovering from a mafia scandal that almost finished his career. He was living with his Aunt Sofia in Italy when he met Elena, and the sparks flew. Soon, things got interesting, and the couple started living together. It was then Giovanni figured out that Elena had dissociative episodes and almost madly rambled on about some curse on their family. Seeing a psychic confused them more. The psychic, Serena, believed this was not their first attempt at a relationship; they had loved and failed before. However, this time would be different. This time they would succeed. As a series of events unveil new truths and open new avenues for Elena and Giovanni, their lives are changed forever.
If Music Be The Food Of Love is an introduction to Giovanni and Elena. Written for adult audiences who aren’t squeamish about BDSM, the story is intense from the very beginning. The novel opens in the future where Elena and Giovanni have been married for almost four decades, and readers visit their past as Elena reads Giovanni’s memoir. The mystery behind “karma” and the “curse” was confusing at first, but as the story progressed, it became clearer. I loved the slow burn, the character development, and especially the descriptions of Italian culture and life. Angela was a character I least expected. She brought out a different side of Elena, gave Giovanni more information, and aided in their character development. Author Lenny Cavallaro did extensive research and that was apparent in the way the narrative was written. The ending was surprising, to say the least. I eagerly anticipate the next novel in the series.
