I Can’t Believe It’s a Diet by Dr Leon Massage is a book on health and nutrition teaching readers the science behind weight gain and how to lose weight healthily. The premise of the book is that losing weight and staying thin and healthy is not a diet but a lifestyle that can be adopted step by step by changing eating habits, incorporating exercise in our daily routine and eradicating stress, among other things. The author also talks about the importance of setting realistic goals and specific targets, as well as developing a positive mental attitude towards healthy food and exercise. The book contains valuable information on food groups and types of exercises. This equips readers with essential knowledge in order to make informed choices towards a healthy lifestyle that ultimately leads to weight loss.
I enjoyed reading the book I Can’t Believe It’s a Diet as it is easy to read and understand even when it gets into details on how the body works, from metabolism and chemical processes to how stress can affect our weight. The science behind the narrative is essential to understand how and why Massage’s solutions work. Each chapter finishes with a “take home message” which summarizes the contents of the chapter, thus making it easier for readers to process and retain the information. I found the low-fat recipes at the end of the book particularly useful for anyone who wants to embark on this new lifestyle journey. I recommend this book not only to people who want to lose weight, but to anyone who wants to follow a healthy eating and exercising regime.
