I loved this author's writing in Scripted in Heaven, and thought another book of hers would be inspiring, and she never failed me. This time, it's not a tale about encountering a saint who brings about physical and spiritual healing, but what one strong woman would do when her family is threatened by a third party — or when it breaks apart. I Called Myself Cassandra by Lourdes Duque Baron is the tale of a woman who suddenly discovers that there is someone else — younger and more beautiful than her — who has the attention of her husband. Should Cassandra throw the promise she made years ago to stay with the man she loves “for better or for worse” to the winds? Or can she turn his heart away from the other woman? Follow this tale of courage to find out how Cassandra handles her broken marriage.
I Called Myself Cassandra is a riveting story, bold and inspiring, poignant and filled with wisdom. I enjoyed the way the author captures the emotions of her protagonist, writing about a character who mirrors the reality of many people. I love books that are filled with imagination, but I want them to be real. I want to feel that I am part of the world an author writes about, and this feeling sits well with this book. The sentences are beautifully crafted, the paragraph breaks well done to allow the rhythm of the story. Lourdes Duque Baron creates a real, powerful premise and succeeds in writing about characters that are believable. It will be easy for the reader to feel moved by the harsh seasons of the protagonist’s soul, to admire her courage, and to feel the emotions that move the writing.
