Humans' Enhancements (Clashing Revelations Trilogy Book 1) by I. M. Stoicus offers a chilling view of a futuristic dystopian world ruled by a cadre of evil and self-serving elites who despise humanity and all it implies. Artificially enhanced humans (AEs) exist side-by-side with AI helper robots and soldiers in service to The State. Solon, the intrepid hero, enters the world with the body of a full-grown eighteen-year-old male. He then has a brief time to learn from his “parents” and goes into military service and gladiator exhibitions, where he ultimately fulfills his destiny as part of the resistance, facing danger and annihilation at every turn.
I. M. Stoicus has written Humans’ Enhancements in a spartan style as foreboding as the Federal Republic Empire into which Solon is born. The result is a jaw-clenching, knuckle-whitening, whirlwind-paced epic tale which perfectly introduces the promised future installments. It should be noted that the Federal Republic Empire bears an uncanny and unnerving resemblance to our politically divided world of today and that Utopianapolis, its capital, is a clear cousin to modern-day Washington, DC. Readers will no doubt notice many similarities to recent political events. Because of this, Humans’ Enhancements has tremendous additional value as a cautionary tale: if Solon’s experience serves its literary purpose, readers may well take time to pause and reflect on their own values and choices and those of our elected leaders. Humans’ Enhancements is a masterfully crafted and thought-provoking exploration of a future world of dystopian nightmares – a world we seem to be dangerously close to today.
