The CEO of a corporation leaves for a planetary war, only to be lost in the stars for two decades before finding his way back to earth in Homecoming by Elizabeth Chang. Stellae is an interplanetary organization that has created Stella, the technology to construct planets from black holes. Each of the members of Stellae has signed a contract stating that they will defend and protect their technology. James is the CEO of the company Olive, one of the members of Stellae. When the Hectarans steal Stella, James is contractually obligated to join the fight against them. Leaving behind his wife of four years, and their two-year-old son, James joins Stellae in the battle to retrieve their technology. Ten years later, the war is over, and James is on his way home when he crashes on an uninhabited moon. Stranded fifteen thousand light-years from home, James is the only surviving member of his crew. Will he ever see his son and wife again?
Creating new planets is a fascinating aspect of Homecoming by Elizabeth Chang. It is a well-written story with an interesting plot and charming characters. The storyline moves between different points of view and timelines, creating a complex and absorbing tale. In addition, Ms. Chang has even cleverly developed a language that accompanies one of the minor planets. Similar to a storyboard, a glossary at the end of the book contains character profiles, an intergalactic language, and pertinent information regarding the storyline. It is an entertaining novel that is sure to interest fans of intergalactic fantasies. Because there are subtle sexual situations, including rape, it is more suitable for a mature reader.
