Hero Spell (Liberty Valley Love) is the fourth book in the series by Josie Malone. The story follows Audra Dawson, a pony farm manager who is exceptional at her job. There is nothing she cannot do, but getting the man of her dreams to fall in love with her is perhaps the only thing she has been unable to achieve. Unbeknown to her, Joe Watkins believes he is the man for her. When their paths cross and Audra finally acknowledges Joe, sparks fly. With some help from little Jake and Lynn, it looks as if things can finally fall into place. When animals around the ranch are mistreated, it is up to Audra and Joe to figure out what is happening and how can they stop it before it is too late?
Audra is the reliable character, the one person in this story whom everyone trusts. While this characterization makes Audra credible, it is her feelings of being ignored and loneliness that make her relatable. She is unsure of her abilities when it comes to relationships, although she is confident in her abilities at work. I love how Elinor is Audra’s champion and sounding board. Elinor helps Audra fight for herself rather than just letting her family walk all over her. Joe, on the other hand, is a comfortable man who knows what he wants and how he will get it. As a vet, Joe has direct access to Audra and uses every opportunity to show her why they are perfect for each other. I found Jake and Lynn to be hilarious (and real heroes of the story). The mystery behind the sick animals plays a vital role in keeping the momentum going and holding the interest of readers. I loved the story, loved the characters, and especially loved the ending. A wonderful romance with plenty of action to spice things up, Hero Spell by Josie Malone is highly recommended.
