He Knows Her Name: An Amazing Pursuit to Adopt From India by Kelly McCorkle Parkison is a heartfelt and inspiring story about Kelly and Scott Parkinson’s adoption story. The book chronicles Kelly’s journey from that of being Miss South Carolina in 2002 to that of visiting India, a country she had sworn never to visit again, and adopting a beautiful little girl from an orphanage there. The author speaks about how she got defensive about Lyla during the adoption process and found herself slowly being resentful towards Lyla for a while, and then rebuilding the maternal bond all over again with Lyla. The book sheds light on international adoption and how God makes Kelly return to India and makes her fall in love with the orphans at a particular orphanage, which ultimately takes her back to India with her husband, Scott, to adopt Lyla.
It is a beautiful story written with love and faith in God and is a must-read for all those parents looking into domestic and international adoption. Kelly’s trust and faith in God run through the entire story and every visit she makes, the people she meets, the things she observes are all discussed in the book, making the scenes and the experiences tangible to readers. The frustration, difficulties, laughter, tears, dealing with a medical issue of their daughter, the paperwork to complete the adoption procedure, and bringing their daughter into a new culture, and helping her fit into that new space have been shared in detail with readers. The author highlights the plans God has for each one of us and how they accepted His will for them, even though at times it was tough and scary. The photographs shared in the book help readers connect with Kelly, Scott, and their kids. The book will leave readers teary eyed and it reiterates the power and presence of God in everyone’s lives.
