Halloween Ride: A Gregory Green Adventure by Elaine Kaye, as the title suggests, has Halloween as its backdrop. Gregory Green and Sammy, his teddy bear, hope to get a lot of candy that Halloween night. Gregory is dressed as a pirate and Sammy is wearing a costume Gregory wore when he was young; an orange pumpkin with a smiling face. They go around with their plastic candy buckets. They have a few pieces of candy but they want more. They both love to yell 'trick-or-treat' at every door. Once it's dark, everything looks spooky and Sammy thinks there is a ghost in the sky. As they start walking, they see a broom at the bottom of the tree. Their magical journey begins from there and takes young readers on a wonderful adventure filled with fantasy and imagination.

This is a perfect story for children and it will make them imagine, dream, and become adventurous. The illustrations are whimsical and they bring out the spookiness and eeriness of the adventure. It is a good book to use for storytelling sessions during Halloween and children will love to have an adventure like Gregory and Sammy and fly around on a broom and meet the witch. I like the way the author knits reality and whimsy together and makes the adventure even more captivating and exciting for readers. Though part of a series, the book can stand on its own and is still appealing with its own touch of enchantment and magic.
