A style that is deceptively simple and a voice that emerges powerfully from the depths of the heart of the personae, Haiku & Other Half-truths… by Anna Khachatryan captures powerful emotions and explores themes of love, the fusion of hearts, presence, solitude, despair, and humanity, among many others. Each poem has the feel of a cookie — small and delicious, a pleasure to savor instantly but that leaves a lingering taste in the soul. I knew I’d love this collection the moment I read the first poem:
“Love – a rare flower,
Will you ever take root
in my garden of life?”
But that is just the beginning of a work that opens a portal into the human soul — into the very heart of humanity. The poet takes readers on an emotional journey to share their intimate delights, the inebriating sense of love. Listen to this soliloquy, and notice the expression of utter wonder and delight:
“In the darkness of your room
In the cradle of your arms
In the heat of the moment
I lose control…”
Haiku & Other Half-truths... is a gorgeous offering that reminds readers of the beauty they carry within them — their gift of feeling. I loved the simplicity in style, but the profundity of the author’s message is surprisingly delightful. Many readers will find resonance in the lines in these pages. At times it is an outburst of joy, at times a question, a longing, and at times, it is the darkness from which the poet speaks that makes the message universal and deeply human. The conversational tone gives energy to the poems and makes them irresistible. Anna Khachatryan captivates hearts with everyday diction, putting into words the things for which some of us find no language. A great gift for poetry fans!
