Gus Goon Says Goon Morning by K.M. Walton is a children's story about Gus, a monster with three eyes and multiple limbs. Gus has a loving family and enjoys spending time with them. Unfortunately, because of his unusual appearance, most kids get scared when they see him. He does not understand why they fear him because everything he does is ordinary. The Goon family lives together in a beautiful home and uses typical household appliances. Like all the other kids, Gus brushes his teeth, plays with his sister, has a pet, and a mother and father. Join Gus in his morning routine and discover how ordinary his life is.
Gus Goon Says Goon Morning tackles issues concerning discrimination and prejudice by children. The story raises awareness and delivers an important message about welcoming all children, regardless of their differences. Gus and his family are a lovely and relatable bunch. K.M. Walton skillfully structured this book by allowing readers to meet the family before introducing other characters. The reader will be as surprised as Gus by the reaction of other kids because Gus seems so conventional. I loved the consistent grey and yellow color theme. Each character was clear and visible, and the Goon family is illustrated carrying out their daily activities. I recommend that parents and educators read this book with their children and teach them about accepting others. People come from different backgrounds. They may be physically or mentally challenged, homeless, or from a different race, but one thing we have in common is that we are all human and deserve to be loved.
