Grief in the Gatine by GM Haley is the fourth book in the Catherine Patterson Mysteries series. Catherine is excited to have an influx of guests at the chambres d’hotes until the murder mystery fun turns into a real-life murder scenario. The victim has family staying as a guests, which provides Catherine with the perfect excuse to do a bit of sleuthing. As she sets out to dig up answers, she uncovers shady activities happening at the Michelin-starred restaurant which could be a motive for murder. She knows she’s getting close to catching the killer though the Inspector may not appreciate her investigative prowess.
GM Haley returns with another delightful mystery with Catherine Patterson once again landing herself into some trouble. The French-infused mystery provides your favorite sleuth with a new murder to solve and new clues to follow. Catherine is a headstrong sleuth that doesn’t let anything get in her way and has a natural curiosity in her that she uses to drive her investigation. She has many relationships highlighted throughout with all her friends, her husband, and a fun dynamic with the Inspector. The other characters are charming and delightful with intriguing suspects and her helpful loved ones. Her investigations aren’t taken seriously by the Inspector which makes their scenes humorous as he’s so used to her at the center of a murder that it shows in how they communicate.
The mystery connects her back to the restaurant that on the surface is supposedly a grand place but, as Catherine digs deeper, she uncovers shocking secrets. Her investigations draw the wrong kind of attention and put her in the killer’s path. This ups the danger for her and makes her even more determined to catch the one responsible while also making every turn in the mystery exciting and suspenseful. Haley will keep you guessing until the very end and will have you putting your own sleuthing skills to work. Mystery lovers won’t be able to get enough of Catherine Patterson and will instantly be captivated by this latest mystery in Grief in the Gatine.
