Florence D. Blanding’s Grandpa’s Coming to Visit is an endearing rhyming children’s picture book about a young boy and his grandpa who is coming into town, and the fun that they have while he is staying with them. The illustrations, also created by the author, are colorful and simplistic in a way that makes it easy to follow from page to page. You get a sense of the bond and family dynamic that the grandson and grandfather have. The writing style that Blanding employs is straight to the point while still evoking emotional moments in effective ways.
Grandpa’s Coming to Visit by Florence D. Blanding has a way of bringing back childhood memories. It’s a bit of a trip down memory lane that will have many adults heartily enjoying the story together with their little ones. The book highlights a much-needed and profound message. Without giving too much of the story away, I will say that it hints at the materialistic world that surrounds us. In the grand scheme of life some things and experiences are much more important. This book would be an amazing read for children of all ages. It is the perfect lesson to be delivered in a kindergarten or elementary school setting. You don’t want to miss out.
