God in a Box: Thoughts from a Recovering Fundamentalist by Marion Pember is a book that will expose you more to God and spirituality and clear up a lot of misgivings about religion and spirituality. The author introduces the concept of a 'God Box,' the box where we can keep our personal beliefs about God. It is an insightful and thought provoking book that also sheds more light on the Bible, scriptures and the myths regarding them. He also tells readers how questioning can encourage growth and there need not be an answer for everything. The author's thoughts and concepts in the book are a stimulant for growth.
The book is an interesting read and some of the author’s viewpoints are good and will motivate readers to look into themselves and change their perspective on God, Christianity and religion. The author delves deep into the Christian fundamental traditions and it is an ideal book for those looking to widen their knowledge about God and improve their relationship with themselves and God. The book also speaks about the author's journey from that of a fundamentalist Christian to a Christian agnostic.
The concept of keeping beliefs in a God Box is unique and it is interesting to know what type of God each one has in their God Box. The encompassing spirit of God and his active presence in the Universe is the dominant theme of the book. The importance of the church and its role in providing a healthy atmosphere of support to the community is also discussed.
