How would you react if your grandma told you that your grandfather was abducted by aliens? That is how George at the Speed of Light by Greg Trine begins, and it causes George to think his grandma is crazy. But then he and his brother Pete have to go stay with her while their parents are on vacation, and Pete gets abducted by aliens too. Luckily, he and his grandma were able to track his shoe to the planet Flerk, but when their spaceship crash lands, George is forced to continue the mission solo. He quickly befriends a labrador the size of a hippo and a boy named Slim, and together they face down pirates and other hostiles on their mission. Will they be able to rescue his brother?

With thrilling scenes and interesting characters, George at the Speed of Light by Greg Trine is a very enjoyable read. The story is filled with exciting action scenes that made me want to keep reading to find out what happens next. As well, there are plenty of funny lines and parts. The likable and unique characters add to the story, and readers will find themselves rooting for George. The planet Flerk is original and well designed. The book is well written and I liked the narration from George’s perspective. The first line is great and I was hooked from the first page. Furthermore, the occasional illustrations are well-drawn and add a nice touch. The fast pace, short length, and humor make it the perfect book for ages 6-10. I would definitely recommend this book.
