Fugue Devil: Resurgence is a collection of works of fiction in the horror subgenre. It is aimed at mature readers and was penned by author Stephen Mark Rainey. The collection contains twelve horror stories, including the classic Fugue Devil and its sequel, The Devil’s Eye. Each is an evocative tale of dread exploring original ideas that will inspire terror in the reader as they follow protagonists falling under spells, fighting off madness in the face of the impossible, venturing into the darkness to investigate things best left alone, and hearing sinister voices where there ought to be nothing but white noise.
It’s been three decades since the novella Fugue Devil was first released, and since then, not only has it had a direct sequel, but author Stephen Mark Rainey has grown and developed his craft even further. This collection feels like a tour de force of the author’s skills that have been honed over the years since Fugue Devil was first published, with the other works showcasing an exquisite form of dread-inducing storytelling. There isn’t a story here that hasn’t earned its place in the collection through its quality, with diverse themes and concepts being fully utilized and stamped with Rainey’s signature sense of terror. For the horror fans amongst you, Fugue Devil: Resurgence is an outstanding bag of shock and unease to be dipped into on a dark night that showcases some of the best horror writing on the market today. It’s an absolute must-have for readers of horror, and I cannot recommend it enough.
