In an area west of the Cascades and east of the Olympic Mountains, Ray LeCara Jr resides with his wife near Puget Sound. He and his shadow, a senior Golden Shepherd rescue, enjoy early morning walks in the local park or taking in the breathtaking vistas along the sound. A veteran educator and author of several books, LeCara can be found teaching, coaching, and producing when he isn’t writing.

From Where I Sit: A Collection of Short Fiction by Ray LeCara Jr is a touching anthology of five thought-provoking short stories. Titles include Scent of Jupiter, A Life Lost Living, Goldie, One Night in Bangkok, and Old Lang Syne. As the titles indicate, the themes of the stories are varied. The book opens with a thrilling story about a World War II agent on an urgent mission to acquire a rare Faberge egg because it contains secrets that can provide advantages to the Germans. This thriller should immediately grip the reader’s attention. A Life Lost Living, my favorite, is about the strong bond between a young bartender and an elderly veteran as the latter looks back on regrets that come when examining the real purpose of living during his sunset years.
Ray LeCara Jr’s From Where I Sit is an engaging collection of stories about life, love, friendship, family, and more. LeCara is a storyteller with a versatile writing style that can appeal to a wide range of readers. Each narrative is unique and the author has complete control of his story and emotive style. The characters, coming from different backgrounds and dealing with different situations, are well-developed, making it easy to empathize with them. I find the pacing smooth for every twist and turn, making it an easy and enjoyable read. This collection of compelling narratives may provide some answers to one of the most difficult questions everyone eventually faces regarding the meaning of life. I highly recommend this read.
