Joana M. James writes from her life experiences in her devotional study From Redemption to Maturity. This narrative is the first book in her Soul Food Series. Each chapter encourages the reader to grow in Christ, to step beyond where they are and into a greater and closer walk with God. By developing a relationship with God, the Christian believer can endure the challenges of life, and learn from them. Through this study, you are encouraged to praise God in advance, and praise Him in the storm. By turning to God daily, we will discover the true freedom bestowed upon us - the freedom to grow and to experience God’s kingdom in our everyday lives. As we each search for the meaning of life, there needs to be a "shift from redemption to actual maturity."
From Redemption to Maturity by Joana M. James prompts the reader to grow in Christ. The chapters are short, sweet, and to the point, using scriptures to bring the point home. Keeping it real and personal, James shares her funny and embarrassing moments to reveal a lesson to be learned. It is very easy to read and understand; however, application is up to the reader. Without being preachy, the narrative is balanced between what not to do with what should be done. Her overall theme is obvious; to grow we must endure testing and often a degree of pain. Our lives should become a testimony of the greatness of God.
