Ilia Rose spent two centuries hunting Sol, the one who’s responsible for turning her and her friends into vampires. When Ilia receive the news that Sol is returning to her hometown and that his men have been seen prowling around, she and her friends swear to make sure no one in Bearwood suffers the same fate their families did back in 1810. When Ilia find herself face to face with Nathaniel, who’s working for her enemy, she can’t fight her attraction to him and things become more complicated.
Fractured Immortal (The Bearwood Series, Book 1) by E.L. Wicker features one of the supernatural genre’s favorite beings, vampires, in the quest for revenge laced with suspense, action and romance. Despite the classic theme, Wicker successfully puts a fresh spin through its premise and storyline. The addition of magic and the never-ending battle between the vampires and the witches gives Fractured Immortal more depth. One of my favorite scenes is when Ilia and her friends meet Maggie the witch and learn more about the past in order to stop Sol.
The pacing of the story is good and character development is evident as the story progresses. The transitions between flashbacks and the present are flawless. Wicker’s narrative is straightforward and a breezy read. I like the cast – both heroes and villains – they are well fleshed out. My favorites would be the shape shifter Lana and Lucas. Their bond with Ilia is admirable. Overall, readers who are also fans of the television series Vampire Diaries would find Wicker’s novel a great read to savor.
