Fool's Gold is penned by author Brenda Lyne in the paranormal, mystery, and adventure genres, and is the third novel in the Raegan O'Rourke Mystery collection. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. The story follows Raegan O'Rourke and her family's quest to find a hidden stash of gold before the malevolent Faust family. With Raegan's mother, Danielle, returning after three decades in hiding, they seek evidence to link Edison Faust to various crimes, including murder. When the Fausts kidnap Danielle, the family must utilize their psychic abilities to thwart their adversaries and bring them to justice, risking everything to uncover the truth.

Author Brenda Lyne has crafted an exhilarating journey into a world of mystery and intrigue that leaps off the page at once with its dynamic settings and interesting characters. The plot strands form a brilliant blend of family dynamics, psychic abilities, and suspense, creating a compelling narrative that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout with great pacing and some satisfying twists. The characters, particularly Raegan and her family, were richly developed, each with their own complexities and motivations. I loved the narrative strength with its confident portrayal of each person and their unique parlance and talents. The tension steadily mounted as the stakes grew higher, culminating in a gripping climax that pulls together all loose threads but leaves great scope for future adventures. Lyne's skillful storytelling and vivid imagery brought the story into full technicolor, immersing me in the scenes with vivid images that match the mood and tone of the scene. Overall, Fool's Gold delivered a thrilling and satisfying read that I would highly recommend to mystery fans everywhere.

Raegan O’Rourke was an investigative reporter who hailed from a line of women with the psychic ability to see the past and future through touch. This gift made her mother the target of Edison Faust, a powerful man in search of a bag of gold. It belonged to a man whose death was suspicious. Raegan’s mom had been in hiding for thirty years until she could not do it anymore. She returned home and was kidnapped by the Faust family, including her ex-lover, Nicholas Faust. They wanted her to lead them to the bag of gold, and even then, they wouldn’t spare her life. Raegan teamed up with a police officer named Jesse Hendricks to rescue her mom and bring the Fausts to justice. Her mother’s life is on the line, and it’s a race against time in Fool’s Gold by Brenda Lyne.

Raegan quit her job to become a private investigator, and the first case happened in her immediate family. Life has an impressive sense of humor. Fool’s Gold by Brenda Lyne is a fascinating and suspense-filled novel that centers on love, family bonds, loyalty, greed, and romance. This novel is the third installment in the Raegan O’Rourke Mystery and splits the focus between her personal life and her mother, Danielle. The author thoughtfully included synopses of the first two installments, which helped me better understand this book. I loved everything about this story, from the plot to the development. Jesse and Raegan were my best characters, and they blossomed before my eyes, which was a high point. The animosity between the Fausts and Ainsley was also disturbing. They sustained grudges through generations. However, I loved Mimi, for she was bold and resourceful. Thank you for a beautiful book, Brenda. Keep writing.

Fool's Gold by Brenda Lyne is the third book in the Raegan O'Rourke Mystery series. Raegan's mother, Danielle, has been in hiding for three decades, but she has finally come home. The whole family must now embark on a mission to find hidden gold before the Faust family. They also need to prove that Edison Faust didn't just kill the owner of the gold; he's also responsible for many more deaths. When Danielle is kidnapped, her family must pull together. All the women have psychic abilities, and they must use these to destroy the Faust family for good. Can they find the evidence they need? Can they save Danielle? Or will the Fausts rule forever?

I read Fool's Gold by Brenda Lyne as a standalone. Even though I haven't read the rest of the series, I found it an easy read. However, I would recommend reading the first two books before this one as you'll get a better feel for the characters and storyline. This is an adult paranormal story because of the violence and language but it is perfectly in keeping with the plot. There is more than enough action and mystery to keep you reading and plenty of suspense that builds throughout the story. It is fast-paced, but it's one of those books that you can't put down once you start, and it will keep you guessing all the way through. The characters are developed as real people, wholly likable, and you'll be rooting for the O'Rourke family right from the start. A highly enjoyable story, and recommended for all fans of the paranormal or who want something a little different.
