Flash Point: The Final Conspiracy by Thomas A. Whitmire and Jacob D. Miller is a conspiracy thriller with strong political hints, a timely story with a prophetic message. The novel plunges the reader into a world where the intricate and shady threads of power are explored. Eric Anderson is a media activist who is fascinated by conspiracy theories. When he lands an inside job with Senator Lamb, a mysterious man, he is thrilled, but when national tragedy pulls him into the spotlight, he finds his world crumbling with everything he’d believed in engulfed in a competitive game of power and the manipulation of the media. An encounter with a homeless man, a character with a prophetic vision, helps Eric find his footing. But can people ever know any truth for certain?
Flash Point explores both the social and political landscapes of the United States, where the mega-rich uses power to ensure that the poor stay that way; they have hijacked the government and they ensure that the masses stay powerless. The setting is in Washington DC, and right from the start of the narrative, the reader is introduced to a society where it is forbidden to protest. The use of irony and contrast is ingenious and it shows the divide that is characteristic of contemporary American culture. For instance, when insurance companies and banks post record profits, they do so in the midst of nationwide joblessness. The narrative is enriched by fascinating and mind-boggling social commentaries. The realism infused into the writing made me feel as though I was reading an incisive critique of the current regime. Flash Point: The Final Conspiracy is beautifully written, cunningly plotted, and featuring a protagonist that most readers can relate to. It is an eye-opening and entertaining story with strong political themes.
