First Time at the Pool by RyAnn Adams Hall is a beguiling tale for young children about two-year-old Kayleigh’s first trip to the “big pool.” Under Mommy and Daddy’s tender and dedicated supervision, Kayleigh, with her water wings and a great deal of heartwarming parental encouragement, takes on deep water and emerges triumphant, with a healthy respect for both the privilege of swimming in the pool and the need to exercise appropriate care while doing so.
RyAnn Adams Hall’s narrative is just what a children’s book text should be: simple and straightforward but also charming and perfect for initiating meaningful discussion between children and adults. Inga Shalvashvili’s accompanying illustrations are sunlit, bright, and a perfect complement to the ebullience of the narrative. First Time at the Pool is ideal for a lighthearted shared adult-child read that sends positive messages and reinforces desired behaviors.
First Time at the Pool by RyAnn Adams Hall would be a marvelous addition to a home, classroom, daycare, or personal library. There is a “This Book Belongs To” space just after the frontispiece where a child may write his or her name, which makes First Time at the Pool ideal for gift giving as well.
All in all, it would be hard to find a more genial or appropriate children’s book for relationship building, safety instruction, and/or shared reading time. First Time at the Pool by RyAnn Adams Hall is a winning, uplifting tale of one child’s growth and success, sure to inspire other children to grow and succeed as well.
