The Final Juror: A Brad Frame Mystery by Ray Flynt is the fifth novel in the Brad Frame Mysteries series by the same author. In this novel, Private Detective Brad Frame finds himself called to serve on the jury of a high profile murder case involving the death of a rich socialite, Genevieve Nesbit. The suspect in question is her husband, David Nesbit. Brad’s involvement in this trial leaves his partner, Sharon Porter, to run the investigation concerning a daughter’s doubt surrounding the questionable murder of her father, Martin Tetlow. Will Brad and Sharon be able to put the clues together and successfully come to a conclusion for both?
The novel runs concurrently, swapping points of view from Sharon to Brad, Sharon’s being provided in a first person perspective, while Brad’s is in third person, a technique I found a bit jarring at times. I liked the alternating cases though, but I thought they could have been more developed. I would have happily read a book about Brad’s experiences on the jury panel or Sharon’s complete investigation of the Tetlow case. It would have been more interesting as well if the cases were somehow connected, something I was hoping for while reading the novel. Aside from that, I appreciated Mr. Flynt’s thorough research on the criminal justice system, and how he included intricacies of the personal lives of both Sharon and Brad. I would recommend this to someone who enjoys a bit of intrigue and twist in their mysteries. I am curious to see where Mr. Flynt goes with his series after this. The Final Juror: A Brad Frame Mystery by Ray Flynt will satisfy mystery fans who look for straight plots, with a well-written story, and a majority of loose ends tied up.
