Eye of the Storm: The Silent Grief of Miscarriage by Rachel McGrath is a moving account of how one woman dealt with a miscarriage. Too many women suffer in complete silence after a miscarriage, but why? Is a miscarriage not a “proper” death? Sadly, there are those who believe it isn’t, who say that, after a few weeks, “you should have got over it by now.” These are probably the cruelest words that a woman who has lost her precious baby will ever hear. Rachel McGrath has put pen to paper, she has spilled out her raw grief and all of the emotions she went through after her miscarriage. She pours out her heart and soul to ask people to understand that a miscarriage is still a death; that her baby still deserves to be grieved for, and that her feelings and emotions are very real.
Eye of the Storm: The Silent Grief of Miscarriage by Rachel McGrath is one of those “wow” books. I have never personally known anyone who miscarried and I could never imagine their pain. This book has opened my eyes in a big way. Rachel writes in such an open manner that you can feel the raw grief, the emotions pouring off the pages as she talks us through her story. She talks of how it affected her and her husband and she really doesn’t pull any punches. In such a short book, we are taken on a journey from deep joy to deep pain, a story that she hopes will change the way people see miscarriages. This was a deeply emotional book, one that I am incredibly glad to have been given the opportunity to read. I defy anyone who reads it not to feel her pain.
