David Horn delights us with Do the Robot! In this third book in the Eudora Space Kid series, Eudora is up to her usual shenanigans aboard the AstroLiner Athena. She lands herself in some hot water when she programs Walter, the only robot officer, to disrupt their school play. In trouble with her mother, sister, and even the captain, Eudora is forced to apologize to Walter. However, no good deed goes unpunished as Eudora accidentally breaks poor Walter and is left scrambling to fix the ship’s invaluable and only robot. She enlists the help of her friend, Arnold, and uses her cunning computer skills to program Walter back into a walking, talking, somewhat functioning robot. Although his voice is a lot squeakier and sounds suspiciously like Arnold, while his movements are anything but graceful, Eudora is determined to pass off her newest science project as the real thing. But when she takes the gimmick a bit too far into outer space, she might find herself in a scenario that not even the captain can talk his way out of.
Do the Robot! is my first introduction to the Eudora Space Kid series and I utterly loved it. David Horn has built such a creative world in which this science fiction story plays out. His characters are sweet and relatable and there’s an important lesson to be learned from all the adventures Eudora gets into. Judit Tondora illustrates Eudora’s escapades on the Athena and she captures the mischief in Eudora’s eyes perfectly. David adds an exclusive interview with his dog Trixie, which I thoroughly enjoyed and the story features an educational crossword at the end for curious minds. The book is pure fun for children and adults alike!
