Kathy Porter grew up in Endicott, New York, the birthplace of IBM and only a short distance from where one of her favorite TV series creators, Rod Serling, was raised. Kathy's lifelong interest in science fiction ignited when her father, a science teacher, showed her craters on the moon and taught her about the constellations. She grew up watching science fiction movies and TV shows. Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles was her first delve into a science fiction novel, and she has been hooked ever since.
"I think I was born telling stories," Kathy explained during a recent interview. "As second to the oldest of seven children, the girls all slept in one bedroom. I loved making up bedtime stories with an eerie edge to frighten my sisters: tales about fairies, leprechauns, and aliens."
In September of 1961, reports of Barney and Betty Hill's alien abduction claims took the media by storm. Kathy has been fascinated by their story of science fiction turned reality and "are we alone?"
"The concept of the Gray Guardians Series initially came to me in a dream that lingered in my mind for hours. Finally I told my husband about it over coffee and explained to him that if it were a book, I would love to read it. His advice was, 'If you want to read it, you have to write it.' With his encouragement and support, "Earth's Ultimate Conflict" and "Escape From Nuur" came to fruition. That's how the Gray Guardians Series began."

Escape From Nuur by Kathy Porter is the second episode in her Gray Guardians series. In Escape From Nuur, we learn that the Grays have returned to Earth. A year earlier, half a million humans had been abducted and transported to the planet Nuur, ostensibly to save them from a pending catastrophic collapse of the Earth’s crust. However, the Grays’ real motive was far from altruistic; they needed human DNA to help them reverse a tragic mutation, inadvertently created by their own scientists. Within these pages, we encounter half a dozen different sentient alien species from as many planets. Earth has quite recently been accepted into the Galactic Union, a council of leaders from each member planet charged with keeping peace within their galaxy. Ulterior motives, subterfuge, and unadorned dishonesty complicate an already convoluted effort to rescue the abducted humans and secure unity and peace for the galaxy.
Escape From Nuur is a first-rate story, bursting with inter-galactic action, plausible anxiety, budding romance, and subtle humor. The characters develop realistic and believable inter-species relationships while working together. Porter has painstakingly crafted an easily visualized setting for the story, making the ‘mental movie’ quite detailed and entertaining. Although fictional, at times the events and situations in this book are so vividly portrayed it is easy to forget they truly are a figment of Porter’s brilliant imagination. Sequel to book one, Earth’s Ultimate Conflict, Escape From Nuur will soon be followed by book three in the series, The Journey, due out in the spring of 2015. Fans of sci-fi will not want to miss this series.
