Energy is a work of collected poems on topics such as life, love, and loss, and it was penned and arranged by author Monique Fitzpatrick. Intended to give readers a relatable and emotional journey through matters of the heart, something we can all understand, the work is separated into four chapters which each contains poems on a similar theme. The arrangement creates a narrative journey through happy moments of discovering love, into more painful developments when things go wrong, and then beyond that into the complex and confusing world of deeper meanings and resolutions about the real nature of love. What results is a rollercoaster of ups and downs that give plenty of emotional quality along the way.
Author Monique Fitzpatrick gives an honest and open atmosphere to her poetic works, with clear prose and beautiful imagery that conveys her true heart to her readership. ‘Senses’ was one of my favourites for this, so uplifting and multi-sensory. There are other expansions to her talents too, for example, the wordplay in ‘Past Lovers’ really caught my eye for its thoughtful pacing which makes it feel like you’re there in the moment, feeling that way yourself. I also think that the thematic organization of the work is really inventive and makes a lot of sense, giving readers this guided tour of love and heartache and, at every turn, they have the chance to relate to those familiar moments. Overall, Energy is a highly recommended poetry collection for fans of emotive and honest work by a talented writer.
