Emma's Birthday: Learning to be Gracious by Amber Richards is a children's story about Emma turning seven years old, and how excited she is about the overall experience of the gifts, cake, and her family that help her celebrate. A child's birthday is a very exciting time in their young lives, and many times parents forget to teach basic courtesy to their children when they receive gifts from various people.
The story of Emma's birthday is simple and easy to understand when reading to small children. My daughter totally understood the excitement within the story as she smiled and asked lots of questions about her own upcoming birthday. That part of the story made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. It's amazing when young children are curious and have a healthy appetite for knowledge. The innocence of the little girl was so cute and made me smile as I read the short story.
Overall, the idea of the story was to teach children about gratitude, love, and respect for both family and friends when receiving gifts. Most children are so caught up in the gift that they become rude without even realizing it. This story teaches young children about themselves and the importance of being respectful, even if they may feel disappointed. Although this is a short story, it delivers a great message in its simplicity and the cute illustrations.
